Capital of Culture Transition

It all came to an end tonight. Liverpool is no longer the Capital of Culture. The closing ceremony was billed as “Transition” because it is the transition from Capital of Culture to “2009 Year of the Environment”.

Thousands of people and at least one swan came down to the Pier Head and Albert Dock to see the final show.
Swan at Albert Dock

Memorable for me was The Farm’s All Together Now.

Remember boy that your forefather’s died
Lost in millions for a country’s pride
Never mention the trenches of Belgium
When they stopped fighting and they were one

A spirit stronger than war was at work that night
December 1914 cold, clear and bright
Countries’ borders were right out of sight
They joined together and decided not to fight

All together now, all together now
All together now in no man’s land (together)
All together now (all together), all together now (all together)
All together now (together, together)
In no man’s land (together, together)

The same old story again
All those tears shed in vain
Nothing learnt and nothing gained
Only hope remains

All together now, all together now
All together now in no man’s land (together)
All together now (all together), all together now (all together)
All together now in no man’s land (together)
All together now (all together now), all together now (all together now)
All together now (together, together)
In no man’s land (together, together)

The boys had their say, they said no (all together now)
Stop the slaughter, let’s go home
Let’s go, let’s go (all together now)
Let’s go (all together now), let’s go home
All together now (together, together)
In no man’s land (together, together)
All together now (all together now), all together now (all together)
All together now (together, together)
In no man’s land (together, together

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/09/07/red_tape_out_apprentices_in_uk_makes_apprenticeships_easier/

Edit 31 Jan 2011: 1000 people have applied for 100 apprenticeships in Liverpool according to BBC News http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-12327481

—————————————————–

Liverpool City Council have an article about Apprenticeships.

Engineering apprenticeships are often available at Rolls Royce. They have a dedicated apprenticeships section where you can find out what’s available.

The BBC did an article on Liverpool’s Apprentices

The Career Engineer is a useful site although not specifically about apprenticeships. Select Merseyside from the drop down control on the side of the page and you might find some useful links.

This is also worth a look.

liverpool capital of culture launch event

Just got back from the Capital of Culture launch. Me and my family, Ringo Starr and about 50,000 others were there at 20:08 to start the celebrations. It was an impressive show on and around St George’s Hall.

It lasted just over half an hour and was LOUD and visually stunning with acrobats, choirs and big screen videos.
Usually its hard to get a good view at big events like this, but there were no such problems here as most of the action took place high up on the buildings surrounding the Hall.

Wombats were good, dare I say better than Ringo !

Nice food in Kimos as well.

What a night . Looking forward to the rest of 2008 celebrations.

job oppertunity in liverpool

(This website covers some of the most common search phrases containing the word “Liverpool”)

This makes me think, “If you can’t spell opportunity, what chance have you got of getting through the interview”. But I suppose it depends on the type of job.

Also, putting it in to Google you get loads of hits, not only with job seekers spelling it incorrectly but also job ads that are wrong.

But the telling statistic is that there are 840 results for oppertunity and 194,000 for opportunity. So the “bad spellers” are missing out.

Do you think spelling is important when it comes to jobs?

Hope I didn’t make any spelling mistoakes in this article :)
